Going Home

The morning of the 5th, Dr Stanczyk came to see me.  He said he walked into work and the nurses told him one of his patients had a baby the night before.  He asked them who and of course they told him me.  He asked them why they didn't call him because he gave me his call on delivery card.  The nurses told him there just wasn't time.  They recorded that from the time I arrived to Labor and Delivery to the time I had Tenley was 11 minutes.  (According to them, I would have had the baby in the car if Dave had not shaved 10 minutes off our driving time!)  Dr. Stanczyk said the fastest he could get to the hospital was 13 minutes.  I still wonder if we had called on the way down if he would have been there to deliver me.
The rest of that day I had a hard time with how everything happened with my delivery.  I had so many questions and what ifs.  The whole thing really bothered me for a few weeks afterward. I couldn't get it out of my head. I would think about it when I tried to sleep and then I would dream about it when I finally did wake up.  I'm praying that I never have a baby that way again!
My 2nd night in the hospital was pretty rough.  I had really bad labor pain and it really felt like I was going to have another baby!  Dave was home with the kids so I just had to get through it on my own.  It was a long night so I am really glad the nursery was there to take care of Tenley!  Once I was able to get quite a few drugs in me, I was able to sleep.

Going home is always bitter sweet for me.  I LOVE staying in the hospital.  I know that is weird but I love having one on one time with my new baby and not really having to worry about anything else.  I also enjoying spending that time with Dave.  It also helps that food is brought to me, drugs are given to me, I can sleep whenever I want to and my baby is taken care of during that time.  I really do look forward to those 2 days in the hospital.

St John's made us stay the full 48 hrs after Tenley was born.  I was Strep B +...and didn't get the antibiotic..there just wasn't time, so we were able to stay 48 hours in the hospital with her...which is normal for Strep B+ babies.

Here we go, real life as a family of 5 has begun!
