4th Knee Surgery for Dave

Dave went in for his 4th knee surgery!  Thankfully it wasn't his ACL this time!  He went in to have his knee scoped to clean up his meniscus.

He hurt it this time at a USU football game.  The cheerleaders were throwing t-shirts and one was coming right for us and I told Dave to jump....he did and came down on the stairs and POP....there went his knee!  GREAT!  AND, we didn't even get the t-shirt!

It was a pretty crazy day!  Tyce went in yesterday to Dr. Brown's office for another weight check.  He weighed 5 lbs 13 oz.  He had only gained an ounce in a week!  Dr. Brown at the time had said, well, he didn't lose weight so lets wait and see what he does this next week.

Well, Dave went into work this morning and Dr. Brown called him around 7 am.  He said that he had been up all night thinking about Tyce going over notes and different things trying to figure out what could be going on with him.  He said he just couldn't shake Tyce from his head and he just has a feeling about him and he has learned in the past that when he has a feeling like that, check it out.  So, Dr. Brown told Dave that he would like to have some more tests run on him that day.  He said as soon as places started opening, he would make some calls to get Tyce in.  The main concern was for Pyloric Stenosis which is is a narrowing of the pylorus, the opening from the stomach into the small intestine.

Dr. Brown called back and said Tyce was scheduled for an ultrasound and labs at 12:45 at the hospital.  Dave was suppose to be at the Cache Valley Hospital and 12:30.  Dave said that I could just drop him off on my way to Logan Regional but I felt bad doing that so I called his Grandpa Holt to see if he could stay with Dave until I was done with Tyce.  Thankfully he was able to!

The ultrasound tech checked the pylorus and was able to rule out Phyloric Stenosis.  He called Dr. Brown while I was still there in the room.  I'm not sure Dr. Brown realized this....and he was on speaker phone.  He kept saying things like, "I don't know what to do with this kid", "I can't figure this one out"...I thought it was a little bit funny.  Dr. Brown then asked the tech to check out all the other organs while we were there.

This time the tech did find something in his gallbladder.  He said it kinda looked like a stone but not completely.  He wasn't really sure what it was. He called Dr. Brown again and let him know.  In the meantime, Dr Brown had been making some calls to Dr. Labrum to ask him what he thought about Tyce.  They decided that they needed to get Tyce on some fortifier so the NICU Dietitian was going to come down and talk to me and give me some fortifier.  If Tyce did not gain quite a bit more weight by Monday, then he was going to have to be admitted into the hospital and have a feeding tube put in.

The Dietitian came down and gave me some fortifier.  We were to put 1 tsp in for every 2 oz of milk and every 3 hours.....no exceptions.

Then Tyce and I were off to the Cache Valley Hospital to see Dave.

Dave was the last surgery for Dr. Nelson and of course they had fallen behind.  Dave still had not been taken back by the time I got there.  I relieved Grandpa Holt and we waited for Dave to go back.

The anethesioligist (Joel) came to get Dave.... the crazy thing was, it was the same one that gave me my epidural just 2 weeks prior.  And then Tyce and I waited for a few hours until Dave was awake and well.  It took a little bit longer because Dave decided to let his blood pressure get too low......

Grandpa Holt kept getting in trouble by the nurses because of his cough.  He wanted to leave before they kept him :-)

Everything went well with the surgery.  Dr. Nelson peeked in real quick to let me know things went well and he would send his PA in to talk to me because he had to get to another surgery at Logan Regional.  His PA came in and said they got everything cleaned out and the ACL looked good.

We finally left the hospital around 6.

Dave hadn't eaten since the night before so he was pretty hungry.  He LOVES Chili's so I had ordered us some food from my phone so we could just pick it up on our way home.  I got there and they didn't have our order.  They said it was going to be at least 20 more minutes.  Tyce was past due his feeding time, and I was hurting because I needed to pump, so I was just going to leave.  The manager came over and said he would put our food order in right away, so I waited.  I had our food in 5 minutes and then the manager didn't charge us for the food!  AWESOME!  So nice after a long day!

Hopefully this is the LAST knee surgery for a very long time!
