Cole had quite the week of Dr. visits. Some good news and some not as good news BUT no bad news! We are blessed!
Our 1st visit was to Dr. Blotter for Cole's tubes. I loved waiting in the waiting room with 2 kids for an hour to see him for 2 minutes (not an exaggeration). But, all is good in the world of tubes in Cole's ears.
2nd visit was for Cole's 1 yr check up with Dr. Brown. He weighed in at 21 lbs and 8 oz. This puts him in the 50th%tile. He is a tall little feller at a whopping 30 inches which is in the 90th%tile. The bad news....he has only gained a lb in 6 months. Ya he is still a good sized kid...he just dropped 2 curves on the growth chart...just something to watch and to check in 6 months.
Dr. Brown has also heard a heart murmur since he was born so because of the weight thing and the strong murmur he decided that he should have an echo to make sure it was just that....a murmur. Usually heart murmurs go away in the 1st yr so we are hoping by his 18 month check up it will be gone.
Dr. Brown also prescribed some medicine for thrush.
AND, to top it all off for the day...he had to get 6 shots. So sad! It was a rough little Dr. visit for Cole.
Dr. number 3 was Dr. Doug. He was the Dr. to perform the echo. Funny thing is...I was suppose to try to get Cole to lay still or sleep for an HOUR while he did it...HA...not happening. I took him in so tired but once he saw a new place to explore it was impossible to get him to lay still. I tried taking him on a car ride to get him to sleep but we just ran out of time. So, we had to go back.
Try #2. I took Cole in asleep this time. Once his head hit the pillow he was wide awake. We then tried to put him in a crib to fall asleep that way because he is a pro at falling asleep in his own crib...anyway, that didn't work. So, then we tried a sucker...this worked for awhile but not an hour. Our last try was to papoose him. Dr. Doug pretty much tied his hands down with blankets and I held him down....not very fun for a mom to do to her baby! But, it was either do it this way or take him to Primary Children's to have them sedate him while they did the echo. I opted to hold him down. Luckily enough, Dr. Doug was able to get enough images to send off to Primarys and the results were....some leaky valves but nothing major. He will have to be checked again in 6 months.
And for Cole's final Dr. visit, Dr. Jim. Great news for Cole!!! He no longer has to wear his helmet. HOORAY! Dr. Jim said that if we notice him sleeping on one side that we should have him wear it when he sleeps but if we don't want to...we don't have to. I'm sure Cole really appreciates the fact that he doesn't have to wear it during the hot summer months!
Hopefully we are done with Dr. appointments for awhile eh!?
