Christmas Traditions
Now that we have our own little family we want to start some of our own Christmas traditions. Some that we already have are as follows: PJ's and slippers on Christmas Eve, Each person picks an ornament that represents the past year, and my absolute favorite is watching Luke 2 (The Nativity) to the music of Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant on Christmas Eve. It is very moving and hits the spot for the true meaning of Christmas! I definitely recommend this! We would like to hear some new ideas for traditions so please share your favorites with us! Thanks!

Shepards dinner is always my fav! Warm soup and bread on christmas eve eating on a blanket and tell the story of the shepards.
Dressing up like the Nativity and reading the scriptures that go along with it...very cute!
We always get pjs too but then we also get to open one gift that we want to from family. I like your ideas too.

Hot cocoa and driving around looking at Christmas lights!
This year since we have no money for presents, I decided to make a calendar. And for each day of the month of December we would do something Christmasy. I plan a good meal each night, then it will be something little like watch a movie one night while sipping hot cocoa or pero. The next night we would read a christmas story out of a big christmas book I bought one year, the next night we will drive around and look at christmas lights, the next perhaps read scriptures of Jesus and sing a christmas hymn, the next, take a meal to a needy family, the next night, another christmas movie and cocoa etc...get creative and make some memories. When we look at our calendar for December, there is always something little planned for that day. I think it helps us feel the christmas spirit and focus on the memories instead of the presents.
We tell the nativity story while jacob acts it out with the miniature nativity people...ya know the same set that we both have.
This is from Doug's family: On Christmas Morning, the kids upstairs get woken up with blaring Christmas music being played. Then when everyone's awake, they have to gather at the top of the stairs before they're allowed to come down and Mom & Dad take a Christmas morning sleepy pajama picture of everyone at the top of the stairs. Then we come down, do stockings, breakfast, & gift exchange. The cutest part is just have 25+ years worth of pictures of cute little boys in pajamas at the top of the stairs :)
